Edwards County is 2-8 against Carmi-White County since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Lions are taking a road trip to challenge the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. Edwards County will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
While Edwards County's victory against Elverado wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Falcons 3-2 on Saturday.
Allison Groff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on two hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Madi Murphy was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Kyndal Richards was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Edwards County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs on Saturday. Carmi-White County fell just short of Harrisburg by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Carmi-White County has suffered since April 24, 2024.
Torrie Rider made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Simmons, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Edwards County pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Carmi-White County, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Edwards County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Carmi-White County struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
