1A-2 Region II District 6 recap Oct. 16, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Texas Leadership Charter Academy, who took down 966th ranked Texas Leadership Charter Academy, 34-17.
Eldorado was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 1A-2 Region II District 6. The Eagles beat Menard 52-20 earlier in the week.
The Eagles' dynamic duo of Alex Garcia and Stefan Miller proved tough for Miles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Garcia threw for 70 yards and two touchdowns and Miller had 38 yards receiving. Trey Mayberry helped Texas Leadership Charter Academy's passing attack out by catching three balls for 19 yards.
Dontae Harris was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 196 yards on 19 carries as Irion County lost to the Bulldogs. Teammate Reb Sullenger added to the ground attack by rushing for 127 yards.
The Hornets' Vicente Gomez and Sullenger have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Gomez has thrown for 277 yards this season, while Sullenger, a 5-foot-6 receiver, has four catches for 91 yards. David Taylor's team's Brandon Garcia leads the league in rushing yards with 1459.
A big matchup in 1A-2 Region II District 6 this week will be when Eldorado takes on Miles. Danny Wilhelm's team is in third place, while Brett White's team is in fifth place.
The Bulldogs moved up to 971 from 1,023 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Miles was able to make the jump by defeating the Eagles 34-17.
