Pomfret School is 2-8 against Suffield Academy since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Griffins will venture away from home to square off against the Tigers at 2:00 p.m. Pomfret School is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
While Pomfret School didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Berkshire School by a score of 7-4 on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Griffins.
Carson Ames was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ames was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Pomfret School got a great performance from Seth Duerden as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Duerden a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

Back at the plate, Pomfret School let Mason Gordon and Shep Wilcox run wild. Gordon scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Wilcox scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Those two runs gave Wilcox a new career-high. Sam Power also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Pomfret School was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Suffield Academy hadn't done well against Hamden Hall Country Day recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Hornets 6-5.
Kai Young looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
On the hitting side, Gabriel Rivera and Chase Beloin did most of the damage at the plate: Rivera went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and three runs, while Beloin got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Benny White, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
Suffield Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Pomfret School, their record now sits at 5-2.
Pomfret School beat Suffield Academy 8-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Griffins repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
