The Ganado Indians will square off against the Refugio Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Ganado sitting on nine straight victories and Refugio on three.
On Tuesday, Ganado was able to grind out a solid win over Tidehaven, taking the game 7-4.
Saylor Bures looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rhylee Green, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kalyn Benavides, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Ganado kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tidehaven only managed three hits.
Meanwhile, Refugio made easy work of Port Aransas on Thursday and carried off a 14-3 victory. Considering the Bobcats have won eight matches by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Refugio also got a great performance from Cymber Cancino as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over 4.2 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Cedie Wills was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Jazmyn Howard was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Ganado pushed their record up to 22-5-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Refugio, their win bumped their record up to 13-11.
Everything went Ganado's way against Refugio in their previous meeting back in March of 2016, as Ganado made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
