AAAAA Region 2 recap October 22, 2013
Evans's Colin Dominy rumbled for the longest rushing play in AAAAA Region 2 this season in his game against Grovetown last week. Dominy's team topped the Warriors as he sprinted for 68 yards on the play and finished with 68 in all.
Houston County scaled the state rankings by moving to 72 from 112 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bears were able to move up by besting Warner Robins 27-23.
Houston County's dynamic duo of Jake Fromm and Jaylen Searcy proved to be unstoppable against the Demons, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Fromm threw for 267 yards and 2 touchdowns and Searcy had 115 yards receiving. Brensten Lindsey helped Houston County's passing attack out by catching 8 balls for 94 yards.
He was 21-44 with 2 interceptions.
K'Lon Lovett was a key player and the best on defense this week as Evans beat Grovetown. He grabbed 1 interception and racked up 1 sack.
Marty Jackson's team's Matlin Marshall and Lovett have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Marshall has thrown for 959 yards this season, while Lovett has 18 catches for 274 yards. Jamal Richard from Greenbrier leads the league in rushing with 376 yards.
A big matchup in AAAAA Region 2 this week will be when Jones County takes on Lakeside. The Greyhounds are in fourth place, while the Panthers are in third place.
There should be lots of points scored when the Knights and Von Lassiter's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Evans comes in having scored 153 this season, while the Bears have scored 195. The Knights scored 37 points last week as they bested Rodney Holder's team.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Northside beat Jones County 49-21. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Eagles.
