Bryson Jackson was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Meridian: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 4-13 otherwise. In other batting news, Blake Logan was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Meridian is undefeated when Logan posts two or more runs, but 4-13 otherwise. Jaquavious McCoy also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Northwest Rankin hadn't beaten Warren Central on the road since April 8, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. The Cougars walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Vikings. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 18, 2022, but that streak is no more.
Like Meridian, Northwest Rankin also got a great game from a two-way player: Brady Saxton. On the mound, he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Saxton has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Jack Page looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, JM Moore was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Hodges, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meridian's record now sits at 7-13. As for Northwest Rankin, their record is now 9-12-1.
Meridian suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Northwest Rankin in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
