Baseball Recap: Murray Gets the Win

It was a proper cat-fight when Murray duked it out with Mayfield on Monday. The Murray Tigers came out on top against the Mayfield Cardinals by a score of 5-2. The Tigers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cardinals, too.

Avery Starks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Starks was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Will McCoil was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.

The win made it two in a row for Murray and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mayfield, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Murray will take on Stewart County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mayfield, they will head out to square off against Fulton City at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
