Sebastian River has gone 9-1 against Heritage recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Sebastian River Sharks will head out on the road to face off against the Heritage Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Sebastian River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Sebastian River lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Merritt Island, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's match. Sebastian River put the hurt on Merritt Island with a sharp 16-7 win on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Sharks as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Abigail Bowie-Whitsett made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Bowie-Whitsett was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rily Biggers, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Makayla Smith, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.
Sebastian River always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .614. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Heritage came up short against Satellite on Thursday, falling 20-3. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Scorpions: they've now lost three in a row.
Sebastian River now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Heritage, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Heritage's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sebastian River has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Heritage, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Sebastian River's sizable advantage in that area, Heritage will need to find a way to close that gap.
