It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Everglades City ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They snuck past Marco Island Academy with a 77-73 victory. Everglades City's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Marco Island Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Nick Sadler and John Lewis. Sadler scored 24 points along with nine rebounds and five assists, while Lewis scored 26 points along with five steals. That's the first time this season that Sadler pulled down eight or more rebounds. Jordan Rodden was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 12 rebounds and five assists.
Even though they lost, Marco Island Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
The victory (which was Everglades City's third in a row) raised their record to 3-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points per game. As for Marco Island Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Everglades City has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Babcock at 6:00 p.m. on December 14th. Marco Island Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Donahue Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on December 13th. Donahue Catholic is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
