ANAHEIM, Calif. -
Villa Park (Calif.) jumped out to an early lead against Canyon (Anaheim, Calif.) and never looked back on the way to a 37-6 victory on Saturday.
The Spartans put up 13 points in the opening quarter. Villa Park scored on a touchdown run by
Ian Pogue and a touchdown pass by
Dylan Osborne to
Lane Reiter.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Pogue in the first quarter, VP was up 30-0 at the half.
The Spartans expanded their lead to 31 points entering the fourth quarter. Villa Park scored once in the quarter on a Osborne touchdown pass to
Josh Ruiz.
Villa Park's standout player in the win was Osborne. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
Canyon's only touchdown came on a 12-yard pass in the third quarter.
Coming into the game the Spartans had allowed 26.6 points per game this year. Villa Park held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Comanches well below the 23.1 points it had been averaging per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 46-9 win for VP.
The loss comes after Canyon defeated El Modena 21-13 last week. The loss snapped Canyon's three-game winning streak. With the win the Spartans extended their winning streak to three games.
Canyon (4-4) goes up against Foothill in a Century game matchup next week, while Villa Park (6-2) locks horns with Esperanza also in a Century game.
