Kimberly and Stevens Point are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2023, but likely not for long. The Papermaker Wasp will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m.
Kimberly is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Wisconsin's top teams: Hortonville, who was ranked ninth at the time (Kimberly was ranked 11th). The Papermaker Wasp came up short against the Polar Bears on Tuesday, falling 17-6. That makes it the first time this season the Papermaker Wasp have let down their home crowd.
Meanwhile, Stevens Point entered their tilt with Wausau East on Tuesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Lumberjacks an 18-0 shutout. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by eight runs or more this season.
Sophia Abundiz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2025. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Aubree Itzen was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last nine matchups. Callie Diekhus was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Stevens Point hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive contests.
Stevens Point's victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Kimberly, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.
Kimberly came out on top in a nail-biter against Stevens Point in their previous meeting last Saturday, sneaking past 7-5. Will the Papermaker Wasp repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
