It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Rancho Cucamonga Cougars had no problem doing just that on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 35-14 margin over Edison. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Rancho Cucamonga also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2015.
Trey Wilson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 153 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Jonah Dawson, who picked up 109 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
When it comes to explaining why Edison lost, one person who can't be blamed is Julius Gillick. Despite the final result, he rushed for 111 yards, and also picked up 39 receiving yards.
Rancho Cucamonga has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 10-2 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.2 points per game. As for Edison, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.
Rancho Cucamonga will be playing in front of their home fans against Murrieta Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Murrieta Valley is ranked 16th, while Rancho Cucamonga is ranked 18th). Edison does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
