Basketball Recap: Walsh Takes a Loss

After flying high against Manzanola last Friday, Walsh came back down to earth. The Walsh Eagles were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 37-36 to the Wiley Panthers. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Panthers 17-13 in the first quarter.

Walsh lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ava Alley, who posted nine points and six steals. That's the most steals Alley has posted since back in February of 2024. Averi Kunselman was another key player, putting up eight points and seven boards.

Wiley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lexie Lubbers, who earned 11 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals. Lubbers has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kynlee Dechant, who had 11 points.

Walsh has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Wiley, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-9.

Walsh wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 49-24 victory against Primero on the 25th. Wiley has also already played their next contest, a 48-22 win against Deer Trail on the 25th.
