After flying high against the Douglas Byrd Eagles last Tuesday, the South View Tigers came back down to earth. South View fell to the Pirates 71-66. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for South View in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now lost nine in a row.
Despite the loss, South View had strong showings from Antrell Gilmore, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, and Chase Evans, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Evans continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Farrior, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Lumberton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dimetrious Jones out in front who scored 26 points along with two steals. Jones hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. Jaiden Shephard was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds.
South View's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Lumberton, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-7.
South View will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lumberton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday.
