After flying high against the Red Bay Tigers last Friday, the Marion County Red Raiders came back down to earth. Marion County had to suffer through a rough 74-46 loss at the hands of the Vikings. While losing is never fun, Marion County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Vikings are ranked tenth).
Leading Jasper to victory were Missy Odom and Mia Hollingsworth. Odom scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Hollingsworth scored 25 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Hollingsworth is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. Hallie Harrell was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Marion County has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season. As for Jasper, the win was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marion County will face off against the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Mars Hill Bible's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while the Red Raiders have been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road. As for Jasper, they will face off against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tarrant is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
