After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Union Academy, the Valor Preparatory Academy Owls were happy to have found some success on Friday. They came out on top against Central Academy by a score of 61-54. For Valor Preparatory Academy, this counts as revenge for the 71-59 defeat Central Academy walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
It was another big night for Bishop Witherspoon, who scored 37 points. The matchup was his ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnathan Lee, who scored 12 points.
When it comes to explaining why Central Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zach Mcdowell. Despite the final result, he scored 30 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. Mcdowell scored a full 55.6% of Central Academy's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Drew Butler was another key contributor, scoring no points along with 13 blocks and six rebounds.
Valor Preparatory Academy's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Central Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing West Stanly the next time they take the court. Valor Preparatory Academy will host West Stanly at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Central Academy will head out to face them at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
