The Brewer Witches are taking a road trip to square off against the Mount Desert Island Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Brewer will be strutting in after a win while Mount Desert Island will be coming in after a defeat.
On Wednesday, Brewer needed a bit of extra time to put away Edward Little. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Red Eddies 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Witches have posted since May 21, 2024.
Sara Young was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched eight innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Young was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
In other batting news, Brewer let Emma Jameson and Paige Oakes run wild. Jameson went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Oakes went a perfect 5-for-5 with one run and one RBI. That double was Jameson's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Bragdon, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Brewer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 17 runs the game before, Mount Desert Island was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They lost 13-2 to Old Town. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Trojans have suffered against the Coyotes since April 26, 2022.
Mount Desert Island saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Lawson, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Mount Desert Island has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. As for Brewer, their record now sits at 6-4.
Brewer skirted past Mount Desert Island 3-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Witches since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
