The Riverside-Durham Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Carrboro Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Riverside-Durham made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Voyager Academy, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Riverside-Durham put the hurt on Voyager Academy with a sharp 17-4 win on Wednesday.

Grace Arrington was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. She also hit two doubles, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Grayson Knotts was a standout: she scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Paris Chavis was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Riverside-Durham was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Voyager Academy only posted a batting average of .304.
Meanwhile, Carrboro came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Panthers 14-1. While the Jaguars didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Granville Central's batters probably weren't too happy with Teagan Fichter, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (she gave up a single walk). Fichter has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Carrboro got a massive performance out of Vivian Martin, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jill Schroeder, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Carrboro's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Riverside-Durham, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Riverside-Durham has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .469. However, it's not like Carrboro struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Riverside-Durham took their win against Carrboro in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 18-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Riverside-Durham since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
