Softball Game Preview: Isabella Mustangs vs. Thorsby Rebels

Isabella is 0-10 against Thorsby since March of 2023 but things could change on Thursday. The Mustangs will square off against the Rebels at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Isabella had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Montevallo on Tuesday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 14-4 win. The victory was nothing new for the Mustangs as they're now sitting on three straight.

Isabella let Aubreigh Davenport and Emily Castleberry run wild. Davenport went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double, while Castleberry went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Castleberry a new career-high. Kylee Till was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Isabella kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive games.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Thorsby and Comer had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Rebels never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Tuesday. Considering the Rebels' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

The victory got Thorsby back to even at 2-2. As for Isabella, their record is now 5-3.

Isabella couldn't quite get it done against Thorsby when the teams last played back in March of 2025 as they fell 9-4. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
