The Jacksonville Cardinals will venture away from home to square off against the Havelock Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Jacksonville has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Jacksonville fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against J.H. Rose on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rampants by a score of 4-3. That's two games in a row now that the Cardinals have lost by just one run.

Lauren Weston spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on ten hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jacksonville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kendall Kellum, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Havelock, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They put the hurt on Northside - Jacksonville with a sharp 27-0 victory on Wednesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Rams' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Cassidee Moulton made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Havelock got a massive performance out of Madeline Grant, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Maggie Hirsch, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Havelock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .829. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Jacksonville dropped their record down to 4-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Havelock, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.
Jacksonville beat Havelock 5-2 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
