The Highline Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Cedarcrest Red Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Highline has given up an average of 12 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Highline is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Liberty on Monday. They came up short against the Patriots, falling 13-1. The Pirates have struggled against the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Cedarcrest entered their tilt with Interlake on Monday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Saints 11-3. Considering the Red Wolves have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Ryann Bottemiller made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Bottemiller was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kyle Watson was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Josie Fiala, who went 1-for-4 with three runs and one double.
Cedarcrest now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Highline, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.
Highline suffered a grim 29-15 defeat to Cedarcrest when the teams last played last Friday. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
