The Neumann-Goretti Saints stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They put the hurt on La Salle College with a sharp 66-46 win. Given Neumann-Goretti's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while La Salle College is ranked 186th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Neumann-Goretti's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deshawn Yates led the charge by scoring 20 points along with four steals and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Stephon Ashley, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
The victory was the third in a row for Neumann-Goretti, bringing their record for this year to 19-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.0 points per game. As for La Salle College, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.
Neumann-Goretti didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-65 win vs. Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast Catholic on the 10th. La Salle College will be playing in front of their home fans against Father Judge at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Father Judge knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 20 games -- so hopefully La Salle College likes a good challenge.
