The Fayetteville-Perry Rockets fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 55-52. Fayetteville-Perry has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.
Fayetteville-Perry lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ryley Kleemeyer, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Christina Murphy, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
It was another big night for Jade Massey, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds for Lynchburg-Clay. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Massey has scored all season. Addison West was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Fayetteville-Perry's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Lynchburg-Clay, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Fayetteville-Perry will head out on the road to take on Fairfield at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fayetteville-Perry is coming into the contest with five straight losses on the road, meaning Fairfield will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. As for Lynchburg-Clay, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Peebles at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Lynchburg-Clay focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Monday.
