Briarfield Academy had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They never let Riverdale Academy get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. Briarfield Academy's pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three matchups.

Brock Johnson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. He also hit a triple, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Briarfield Academy got a massive performance out of Jackson Thornton, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Briarfield Academy is undefeated when Thornton posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Zach Lovell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Briarfield Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

Briarfield Academy's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Riverdale Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
