Basketball Recap: Kenzie Smith Key Part of a Team Effort in Cubs Win

Madison hadn't done well against East Central recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Madison Cubs came out on top in a nail-biter against the East Central Trojans, sneaking past 46-43. For the Cubs, this counts as revenge for the 43-42 win the Trojans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2023.

Madison's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenzie Smith, who went 6 of 11 en route to 15 points and three steals. That's the most points Smith has posted since back in November of 2024. Juliana Davis was another key player, going 5 for 12 on her way to 12 points.

East Central's loss came despite strong showings from Teagan Leihgeber and Natalie Stenger. Leihgeber posted five points and 23 boards, while Stenger went 6 of 8 en route to 17 points and six rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Madison and bumps their season record up to 13-4. As for East Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.

Madison has already played their next contest, an 81-48 victory against Columbus East on the 25th. As for East Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 42-38 loss against New Palestine on the 24th.
