Basketball Recap: Victory Christian Takes a Loss

After flying high against Chesterton Academy of Sacramento last Tuesday, Victory Christian came back down to earth. The Victory Christian Vikings came up short against the Valley Christian Lions on Thursday, falling 100-80. The Vikings' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Despite the defeat, Victory Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Luke Smith posted 28 points. Those 28 points set a new season-high mark for Smith. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Kapelkin, who had 13 points.

Valley Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Josh Becker, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 20 points. The dominant performance gave Becker a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jack Grexton, who put up 13 points and seven assists.

Having lost for the first time this season, Victory Christian fell to 3-1. As for Valley Christian, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Victory Christian and Westlake Charter will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. One thing working in Victory Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Valley Christian, they and Mira Loma will face off at 4:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Mira Loma will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Valley Christian surely won't give up without a fight.
