Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pickens Academy). Everything went their way against the Aliceville Yellowjackets on Monday as the Pickens Academy Pirates made off with a 17-5 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Pirates considering their one-run performance the match before.
Braden Banks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances. He has become a key player for Pickens Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, Hudson Pennington and Ace Gregory did most of the damage at the plate: Pennington scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Gregory went 2-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Pickens Academy pushed their record up to 6-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9 runs. As for Aliceville, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-4.
