The Spackenkill Spartans stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Millbrook 55-34. Given Spackenkill's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 157th, while Millbrook is ranked 333rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Millbrook's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andrew Szostak, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Szostak hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Owen Iannucci was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three blocks and two steals.
Spackenkill's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Millbrook, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3.
Spackenkill won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Haldane at 6:00 p.m. on February 3rd. One thing working in Haldane's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five contests. As for Millbrook, they will head out on the road to challenge Webutuck at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Millbrook is facing Webutuck at the right time seeing as Webutuck is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
