The Sabino Sabercats came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Palo Verde as Sabino made off with a 66-44 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Sabino has posted yet this season.
Sabino's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caden Watkins, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenden Gargus, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and eight assists.
Palo Verde's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daniel Ortiz, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Ortiz is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Kameron Pippen was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Even though they lost, Palo Verde smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sabino only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Sabino has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-12 record this season. As for Palo Verde, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-4.
Sabino will head out on the road to take on Empire at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Palo Verde won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Pusch Ridge Christian Academy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.7 points per game.
