The Gooding Senators will square off against the Salmon Savages at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Gooding and Wendell meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Senators put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 22-14 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Senators have posted against the Trojans since April 19, 2021.
Gooding got a massive performance out of Ike Scoffield, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Scoffield also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Cason Page was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Gooding was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .525. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Salmon strolled into their game on Saturday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let West Jefferson get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory.
Dane Piippo made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other pitching news, Clayton Allen looked comfortable as he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Thomas Baumer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Pilkerton, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Salmon's win bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Gooding, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gooding has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Salmon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Gooding suffered a grim 17-1 defeat to Salmon when the teams last played back in March. Will the Senators have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
