Basketball Recap: Model Secondary School for the Deaf Comes Up Short

Model Secondary School for the Deaf was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a blow against the California School for the Deaf-Riverside Cubs, falling 43-9. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Eagles came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 245th in District of Columbia, while the Cubs are ranked 763rd in California).

Johan Hewapathirana was Model Secondary School for the Deaf's leading scorer, having posted four points. Nicholas Vaccaro Iii held things down on the boards with eight rebounds. Anakin Kuhns took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.

Model Secondary School for the Deaf's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for California School for the Deaf-Riverside, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.

Model Secondary School for the Deaf has already played their next contest, a 44-42 win against Texas School for the Deaf on the 18th. As for California School for the Deaf-Riverside, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 51-25 defeat against Maryland School for the Deaf on the 18th.
