AAAAAA Region 2 recap October 8, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Newton, who defeated 126th ranked Alcovy, 17-14.
The Rams moved up to 125 from 184 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AAAAAA Region 2. Newton climbed the ranks as a result of topping the Tigers 17-14.
Luella's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Donald Hammond threw for 135 and 1 touchdown and Trevone Sullivan had 66 yards receiving. On the ground Josh White contributed 109 yards. DeQuarius Fitzgerald helped Luella's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 25 yards.
Hammond put up the best numbers in passing as the Lions topped Druid Hills.
Thanks to the talents of Hammond and Quad Clemmons, Luella has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Hammond leads the league in passing with 703 yards, while Clemmons has rushed for 229 yards this season. Terrance Banks' team's Davonta Jones leads the league in receiving yards with 218 on 12 catches.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Rockdale County takes on Nic Vasilchek's team. At the moment, the Bulldogs are in second, while the Lions are in fourth.
Lovejoy added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Rockdale County, 23-3. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
