The Westview Warriors are on the road again on Tuesday to play the Garrett Railroaders at 5:30 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Westview has not struggled against Mishawaka recently, they managed to flip the script on Saturday. Westview skirted past Mishawaka 8-7.
Gavin Engle was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits (he also didn't allow any walks). Engle was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a stolen base and two RBI.
In other batting news, Mason Wire was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Braden Kauffman, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Even though Garrett couldn't quite topple DeKalb on Saturday, it was still a huge improvement compared to the six-point defeat they took when the two last played. Garrett put the hurt on DeKalb with a sharp 18-5 victory. The win was just what Garrett needed coming off of a 10-4 loss in their prior game.
Like Westview, Garrett also got a great game from a two-way player: Lucas Collins. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits (he also didn't allow any walks). Collins was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other pitching news, Grant Byers looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit.
Back at the plate, Aiden Orth was incredible, going 5-for-6 with a home run, seven RBI, and two runs. Josh Hogle was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 1-for-5.
Westview's record now sits at 2-5. As for Garrett, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Westview skirted past Garrett 7-6 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Westview since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
