The ASU Prep Sun Devils pushed their score all the way to 79 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a rough 100-79 loss at the hands of Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way. While losing is never fun, ASU Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 166th, while Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way is ranked sixth).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way to victory, but perhaps none more so than Branden Trujillo, who scored 24 points along with four steals. Trujillo has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was TJ Clark, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds.
ASU Prep's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way, the victory (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 22-1.
ASU Prep will head out on the road to take on Imagine Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way, they will be playing at home against Varsity Opponent at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
