Wilkes Central is 0-7 against the Cardinals since December of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Wilkes Central Eagles will head out on the road to take on the East Surry Cardinals at 8:00 p.m. Wilkes Central is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Wilkes Central struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Golden Eagles had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Wilkes Central was outmatched by the Golden Eagles at home and fell 86-53. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wilkes Central in their matchups with the Golden Eagles: they've now lost six in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Gus Keener, who scored 15 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brady Scott, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, East Surry pushed their score all the way to 70 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 77-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of North Surry. While losing is never fun, East Surry can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 364th, while the Greyhounds are ranked 150th).
Wilkes Central's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for East Surry, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.
Wilkes Central couldn't quite finish off the Cardinals when the teams last played back in January and fell 60-58. Can Wilkes Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
