2A-1 Region II District 8 recap Oct. 3, 2012
New Boston extended the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region II District 8 this week by beating Queen City, 51-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Mt. Vernon's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Alston Sam threw for 108 and two touchdowns and Sakorey Chandler had 75 yards receiving. On the ground Chandler chipped in 56 yards. Kris Ables helped Mt. Vernon's passing attack out by catching one ball for 17 yards.
Mt. Vernon's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Daniel Brown has thrown for 476 yards and five touchdowns this season, while Chandler has 22 catches for 379 yards. Ables leads the league in rushing with 347 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Prairiland takes on the Tigers. As it stands, the Patriots are in third, while Mt. Vernon is in second.
New Boston led 2A-1 Region II District 8 in scoring this week after putting up 51 points on the Bulldogs.
