It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Calhoun Sandcrabs had no problem doing just that on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 62-36 margin over Zapata. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-14.
Calhoun was led to victory by Alex Parker and Jayce Campos. Parker rushed for 66 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries, while Campos rushed for 168 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. Parker was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 51 yards. Another player making a difference was Darrik Salinas, who gained 118 total yards and a touchdown.
Lauro Guerra and Andres Gutierrez certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Guerra threw for 154 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes, while Gutierrez picked up 185 receiving yards and a touchdown. Gutierrez is on a roll when it comes to receiving yards, as he's now posted 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Calhoun is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Zapata, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5.
Calhoun will face off against Burnet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Burnet sitting on five straight wins and Calhoun on three. Zapata does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
