On Thursday, the Oviedo Lions faced the Edgewater Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Oviedo took a hard 83-67 fall against Edgewater. Oviedo's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Oviedo's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Bryant, who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Harper, who scored 19 points.
Edgewater's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zion Mitchell, who scored 24 points. The contest was Mitchell's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Donovan Williams Jr., who scored 18 points along with six rebounds.
Oviedo's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2. As for Edgewater, they pushed their record up to 10-0 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.
Oviedo will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Timber Creek at 10:30 a.m. on December 27th. Edgewater and Weston Ranch will face off at 1:30 p.m. on December 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Weston Ranch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven last Saturday.
