The Carbondale Area Chargers put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 57-48 win over Lakeland. Given Carbondale Area's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Lakeland is ranked 534th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Chiefs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was David Naniewicz, who scored 11 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Naniewicz grabbed two or more steals. Talin Vitzakovitch was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Carbondale Area pushed their record up to 7-0 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Lakeland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.
Carbondale Area will stay at home for another game and welcome Riverside at 7:15 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Lakeland and Mid Valley will round out the year against one another at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Hopefully Mid Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
