The Deerfield Beach Bucks pushed their score all the way to 59 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Fort Lauderdale by a score of 61-59. Deerfield Beach has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
It was another big night for Matthew Pointer, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds for Fort Lauderdale. That's the first time this season that Pointer scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Reggie Cleveland, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Deerfield Beach's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Fort Lauderdale, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Deerfield Beach will square off against Peachtree Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Peachtree Ridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Deerfield Beach in their respective states (Peachtree Ridge is ranked 93rd in Georgia, while Deerfield Beach is ranked 439th in Florida). As for Fort Lauderdale, they will head out on the road to face off against Stoneman Douglas at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
