Ayersville has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Kalida Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ayersville's defense has only allowed 28.9 points per game this season, so Kalida's offense will have their work cut out for them.
On Saturday, Ayersville earned a 37-24 win over Montpelier. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Ayersville has scored all season.
Ally Schindler was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Taylor Craft was another key contributor, scoring two points along with 14 rebounds and five blocks.
Kalida posted their biggest victory since December 16, 2023 on Saturday. They blew past Holgate 50-20 on the road. Given Kalida's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 186th, while Holgate is ranked 609th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ayersville pushed their record up to 13-0 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Kalida, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Ayersville might still be hurting after the 52-27 defeat they got from Kalida when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Ayersville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
