Softball Recap: Winchester Community Wins Going Away Against Richmond

Winchester Community hadn't done well against Richmond recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Golden Falcons put the hurt on the Red Devils with a sharp 25-2 win. Considering the Golden Falcons have won three contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Cassidi Ruble made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning one RBI and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Ava Lanter was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Delaney Byrd also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Winchester Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Winchester Community has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Richmond, they dropped their record down to 0-7 with the loss, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winchester Community will head out to challenge Muncie Central at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Falcons are facing the Bearcats at the right time seeing as the Bearcats are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Richmond, they will venture away from home to face off against Daleville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Broncos have averaged an impressive 11 runs per game this season.
