The Wakefield Wolverines put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They managed a 63-57 victory over Northern Guilford. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Wakefield's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Syncere Burnette, who scored 20 points along with six steals and five assists. Burnette is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Taj Boone-Chambers was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with six rebounds.
Wakefield's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-0. As for Northern Guilford, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-2.
Wakefield will finish 2023 at home by hosting Hoggard at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hoggard focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday. Northern Guilford won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Clayton at 3:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Clayton is ranked 74th, while Northern Guilford is ranked 53rd).
