Shadow Ridge extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-5. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sunnyslope Vikings. On the bright side, the eight- run effort marked the Stallions' highest-scoring contest to date.
Avery Mackey put in work no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Emma Beck led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. That run marked the first that she has scored this season. Another player making a difference was Gabby Mercier, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Sunnyslope, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.0 runs this season.
On Sunnyslope's side, Jayla Strange was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Strange a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Nordstrom, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Shadow Ridge will head out to face off against Westwood at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.29 runs per game on average), something the Stallions will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Sunnyslope, they are taking a road trip to challenge Liberty at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 1.5 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
