Joey Verhaegh and Larkin Kemp provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Cushing Academy. The connection went for 69 yards, the longest such play in NEPSAC Freelance this season.
Phillips Academy moved up to 58 from 241 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Big Blues were able to make the jump by falling to the Penguins 33-20.
Phillips Academy's dynamic duo of Verhaegh and Kemp proved tough for Cushing Academy to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Verhaegh threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns and Kemp had 237 yards receiving. David McCullough helped Phillips Academy's passing attack out by catching one ball for 21 yards.
Luvin De Leon was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 187 yards on 23 carries as Loomis Chaffee lost to Wayne Clarke's team. Emmanuel Williams also contributed to the rushing game with 61 yards on the ground.
Thanks to the talents of Williams and De Leon Loomis Chaffee has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Williams leads the league in passing with 581 yards, while De Leon has rushed for 387 yards this season. The Big Blues' Kemp leads the league in receiving yards with 299 on 14 catches.
A big matchup in NEPSAC Freelance this week will be when Worcester Academy takes on Choate Rosemary Hall. As it stands, the Hilltoppers are in fifth, while the Wild Boars are in second.
The Penguins were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, Cushing Academy defeated Phillips Academy 33-20.
