2A Flatirons recap Oct. 23, 2012
Hector Venegas and Chris Genovez provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Bishop Machebeuf. The longest such play in 2A Flatirons this season, the connection resulted in 80 yards.
Faith Christian extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating The Academy, 42-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Eagles.
The Pinnacle's dynamic duo of Venegas and Genovez proved tough for the Buffaloes to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Venegas threw for 112 yards and one touchdown and Genovez had 95 yards receiving. Chase Phillips helped The Pinnacle's passing attack out by catching one ball for nine yards.
Henry Southway was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 237 yards on nine carries as Middle Park fell to Bishop Machebeuf. John Stensvad also contributed to the rushing game with 50 yards on the ground.
Barton Taylor made the biggest impact on defense this week as Faith Christian beat the Wildcats. The 6-foot-0 senior forced one fumble and grabbed one sack.
The Pinnacle's Venegas and Genovez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A Flatirons in both passing and receiving yards. Venegas has thrown for 827 yards this season, while Genovez, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 16 catches for 338 yards. Southway from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 1177 yards.
Kevin Mcginty's team's Ty Overturf needs only 85 yards against The Academy next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Overturf has rushed for 915 yards on 151 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Buffaloes take on Park Vogel's team. As it stands, Bishop Machebeuf is in third, while the Wildcats are in fourth.
