Armwood extended the longest winning streak in 6A District 8 this week by beating Strawberry Crest, 35-18. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Hawks.
Armwood suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after defeating the Chargers. Sean Callahan's team had been ranked 12th, but fell to 28.
Jefferson's dynamic duo of Deiondre Porter and Jonathan Moore proved tough for King to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Porter threw for 268 yards and four touchdowns and Moore had 236 yards receiving. Ventell Bryant helped Jefferson's passing attack out by catching four balls for 30 yards.
Ray Ray McCloud III was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 161 yards on 28 carries as Sickles beat the Lions. Nate Mills also contributed to the rushing game with 23 yards on the ground.
Tristan Hyde provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Strawberry Crest lost to the Hawks. He completed 20 passes for 316 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 16 yards. Hyde's favorite target this week was Karel Hamilton, who caught 12 passes for 235 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Hyde of John Kelly's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1657. He has also thrown 14 touchdowns. On the ground, the Gryphons' McCloud III has rushed for 783 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Moore. The Jefferson star has 39 catches for 708 yards.
The top two teams in 6A District 8 will face off this week when first place Armwood takes on second place Hillsborough. Armwood defeated the Chargers last week, while Hillsborough lost to Sickles.
Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when the Terriers and the Hawks meet this week. Hillsborough features well-regarded senior Nigel Harris while Armwood has Alvin Bailey, a sought after senior.
There should be lots of points scored when Earl Garcia's team and the Hawks face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Terriers comes in having scored 230 this season, while Armwood has scored 252. Hillsborough scored 22 points last week as it fell to Brian Turner's team.
