The Detroit Country Day Yellowjackets proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 56) but on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Carroll 47-45. Given Detroit Country Day's advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 17th in Michigan, while Carroll is ranked 98th in Ohio), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Detroit Country Day's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cece Arico led the charge by scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Ari'yana Wiggins was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds.
The victory (which was Detroit Country Day's fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points per game. As for Carroll, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-7.
Detroit Country Day will take on Arbor Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Carroll, they will head out on the road to challenge Eaton at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Carroll is facing Eaton at the right time seeing as Eaton is stuck on a 14-game losing streak.
