The Classical Saints came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They pulled ahead with a 56-55 photo finish over Clearwater. Given Classical's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Clearwater is ranked 239th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Classical's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tait Sinclair led the charge by scoring 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sinclair has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Daniel Young, who scored eight points along with 14 rebounds and three steals.
Classical pushed their record up to 12-2 with that win, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.9 points per game. As for Clearwater, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
Classical will be playing at home against Waverly at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Classical focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Thursday. As for Clearwater, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Winfield at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Clearwater is facing Winfield at the right time seeing as Winfield is stuck on a 11-game losing streak.
