The St. John's Islanders suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 58-36 loss at the hands of Cross. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat St. John's has suffered against Cross since January 4, 2020.
St. John's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaniya Smith, who scored 14 points along with six assists and four steals. Another player making a difference was Daeshia Buford, who scored ten points along with six steals.
This is the second loss in a row for St. John's and nudges their season record down to 7-8. As for Cross, their victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3.
St. John's will head out on the road to face off against Lowcountry Leadership at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lowcountry Leadership comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Cross, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Military Magnet Academy at 6:30 p.m. Military Magnet Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 657 points over their last seven games.
